5 Creative Ways to Get More Nature Into Your Workday
From NASA approved plants to walking Zoom calls. Here’s how I mix nature into my corporate life — so I stay grounded, focused, and (mostly) sane.
I once got fired from an internship at a publicly traded real estate company for doing yoga in the courtyard for too long.
I did not have nature and corporate balance back then.
But through my trials and errors, I learned how to mix both — so I can still feel human, get much-needed nervous system and circadian rhythm balance, and crush my work so I can support myself, my family, and the world.
Without nature, I feel like a crazy person who could end up becoming a taxidermist.
Without nature, I live on my screens and can’t get off them.
Without nature, I watch videos about surfing and nature until 3 AM.
But with nature, I am chill. I am present. I can spend time with my girlfriend and family and not feel like I’m rushing to the next meeting or the next big life event. I can just be.
But the office is hard. We are in a box, after all.
Here’s what I do during my work day so I can get more nature.
1. Take Walks During Calls
This one’s a cheat code. You totally trick yourself into walking way more than planned.
I’ll take a work call outside and end up strolling for 30 minutes without realizing it.
It regulates blood sugar, boosts metabolism, burns fat, and clears your head. Put your camera off on Zoom, pop in AirPods, and walk.
Boom—10,000 steps, here we come.
2. Eat Lunch Outside
In Ayurveda, lunch is when your digestion is strongest — around 1–2 PM, when the sun is highest and your Pitta energy is activated.
Also your mitochondria are most awake around that time.
(Those ancient ocean creatures love the light).
So go outside. Yes, even if you live in Dallas and it’s a trillion degrees.
The colors, light, and air stimulate your nervous system in all the right ways.
Plus, being outside puts you into a parasympathetic state — which means better digestion, nutrient absorption, and fewer “I feel dead” afternoons.
3. Quick Workout Snaps
Not all of us can leave the office for a 2-hour gym session.
I try, but then I get anxious HR will call me in 47 minutes to fire me.
So instead: take 5–10 minute micro-breaks.
After a deep work session, go outside.
Do 50 jumping jacks. 50 squats. 50 push-ups. Or flow through some Tai Chi.
Whatever works.
When I’m working at Wayward Coffee in Dallas (come say hi!), I’ll longboard in the back for 10 minutes every hour. Sun on my skin, brain recharged.
That’s why some businesspeople keep kettlebells or balance boards in their office — blood flow = brain power = better work.
4. Walk or Bike to Work (If You Can)
If you live close to work, just walk. Or bike. Or scooter. Or drive a top-down Camaro with your morning playlist. Just get outside.
Morning light sets your circadian rhythm, boosts mood, and gives you that “main character” energy to carry into the day. Even driving with the windows down counts.
If you live far away, skip this. You are absolved.
5. Bring Nature Inside
Alright, here’s where I go full biohacker.
If you can’t get outside much, bring the outside in.
Add NASA-approved air-purifying plants to your desk
Get a Jaspr air filter to remove mold and VOCs
Use RA Optics blue-light blockers to prevent artificial light from frying your brain
Put a red-light panel near your workstation (hello, mitochondrial upgrade)
Sit by a window if you can
Try a standing desk or under-desk treadmill
Splurge on a PEMF mat if you're feeling bold (or blow your 401k on it… up to you)
Or just invest in crypto back in 2013 and buy a forest. Options.
Anyway, that’s it. These tricks truly help me feel less crazy at the office.
They’ve helped me stay human — while still showing up, working hard, and supporting myself, my people, and the world.
If you ever want help setting up your own biohacked office, I’m happy to hop on a call (no charge — I don’t do that B.S.).
Let’s let peace, love, and joy enter our hearts and souls so we can show up better — for ourselves and each other.
Love you. Have an amazing week 🌱
