8 Ways I Transformed My Apartment into the Ultimate Biohacker HQ
Here's my story of how I got into "home optimization."
Here's my story of how I got into "home optimization."
I was excited to leave the frat house and have my own place. I remember looking at the skyline and thinking, "Wow, no more noise, I can do whatever I want, and my frat bros can't steal my stuff."
So I made a cold plunge in my apartment. One day, I went to Home Depot on a mission to find a 100-gallon trash can. I didn't realize how expensive 100-gallon trash cans are, about $130, so I settled for a 75-gallon trash can. I lugged that thing back to the car, carried it into my apartment, and plopped it in the shower.
Next thing you know, I am taking cold plunges in a trash can with my roommate almost daily. Boom, biohacked HQ. After the cold plunge debut, I bought this huge red light panel. Then I bought a stupid fancy water filter.
This stuff was expensive, so I got a job at a yoga studio to afford it all. Instead of spending it on booze and bags; I was buying melatonin suppositories and red lights.
I kept on going down the biohacker rabbit hole….
Okay, so I found out about environmental toxins and how they are essentially everywhere—in our air, water, and even the light bulbs. I wanted to fix all of that, not in some weird obsessive way, but I just wanted a clean space. So I bought an air filter, a water filter, and some cool new yellow lights that mimicked the sun.
At night, I remember watching Netflix with my red light glasses, my whole house lit up with red light, and thinking this is the coolest thing ever. I then started upgrading my desk after learning about ergonomics. I got a standing desk, downloaded some red light software on my computer like f.lux, and put a kettlebell next to it for my workout breaks.
The home is where we spend most of our time, and if we can create a home that has the tools to give us energy, vitality, and clarity, we will succeed in life.
I'm going to help you get the ground running on your own biohacked home, whether you want more energy, better sleep, or more muscle.
Let's dive in.
1. Buy a Reverse Osmosis Water Filter.
I fill my robot with water from the faucet, and that's when it comes alive.
I fill it with tap water, and suddenly the machine roars to life, slurping up the water and processing it through its three chambers. As it does, the water seems to disappear, but a cloudy sediment starts rising in the tap water tank. This sediment contains tons of chemicals like chlorine, arsenic, pesticides, and parabens from our tap water. These harmful chemicals affect our hormones, fertility, skin health, and are even carcinogenic.
After the machine finishes, it gives me a smiley face. I then add some minerals like sea moss and an electrolyte blend to remineralize the water. Next, I'll place it next to my quantum energy device to charge the water, rearranging the water molecules into a crystalline structure.
There are many RO water filters available, but the best one, in my opinion, is the AquaTru.
The AquaTru features a 4-stage filtration system that includes a carbon filter, a RO Filter and a VOC Carbon filter. I have been using AquaTru for the past four years, and I’ve noticed improved skin health, better detoxification, and tastier water. This unit costs about $500 and lasts a lifetime. Here is the science.

If you have a house and want the best water filtration system I highly recommend Ophora's whole home water system.
2. Buy a HEPA Air Filter.
Unless you live on a Himalayan mountaintop, your air is most likely polluted.
And its polluted with with endocrine disrupting chemicals.
An EDC is defined as “an exogenous substance that causes adverse health effects in an intact organism, and/or its progeny, consequent to changes in endocrine function.” 6
And there are a ton of EDCs in the air, including: phthalates, bisphenol A, parabens, triclosan, alkylphenols, fragrance compounds, organobromine flame retardants, fluorosurfactants, polychlorinated biphenyls, polychlorinated dibenzodioxins/furans, polyaromatic hydrocarbons, pesticides, and herbicides.
Worse, indoor air seems to have the heaviest concentration of these harmful EDCs.
To address this, we need a heavy-duty HEPA air filter.
I bought an Air Doctor for every room in my house. I highly recommend it.
For anyone seeking a complete in-house filtration system, I highly recommend listening to this podcast from Dave Asprey.
3. Switch to Red and Halogen Lighting
Although it may seem trivial, light is one of the most important aspects for our health. In fact, our sleep cycles, hormones, neurotransmitters, and mood are all affected by light.
Our body has a circadian clock that syncs with the sun and moon. This clock triggers processes at specific times. Morning sunlight signals our brain to wake up. It boosts body temperature, cortisol, and neurotransmitters like dopamine and serotonin. At night, the body senses darkness and lowers its temperature and cortisol while starting to produce melatonin, serotonin, and GABA to fall asleep.
However, LED lights trick us.
LED lightbulbs deceive our brain into thinking it’s daytime with their high amount of artificial light. So Mr. Brain looks at Mr. LED lightbulb and says, “Wow, these photons are strong! It must still be daytime. Let me avoid producing melatonin and relaxing neurotransmitters until it becomes nighttime. Hooray!”
And this leads to a myriad of issues including poor sleep, anxiety at work, muscle growth issues and much more.
To protect your body, switch to biologically-friendly lights during the day
Then low blue light and red light at night.
PRO TIP
Limit artificial light radiation by putting a blue light blocker screen on your computer and using blue-light blocking glasses such as RA Optics.
4. Remove Toxic Furniture
In order to truly have a biohacked HQ we need to eliminate our toxic furniture.
A study conducted by scientist at Emory and Baylor University measured over thirty‐one VOCs known as carcinogens, irritants, reproductive or developmental toxins29 were measured from four types of chairs. Acetaldehyde, a suspected carcinogen,30, 31 and formaldehyde, a class 1 carcinogen,30 were emitted from all chair types.
This means that the furniture you have in your home could be causing massive issues in your biology.
So if we want to offset this I recommend looking into non toxic furniture.
5. Enhance your bedroom
If our sleep is being disrupted by toxic chemicals, we cannot perform our best. That’s why its imperative we focus on organic materials in our bedroom.
In this case, let’s get Organic GOTS certified everything:
Mattress sheets
Pillows
Towels
Also blankets.
This is my favorite company for all of that. Essentia. Here is their story.
6. Level up Your Kitchen
It’s one of the most important rooms in the house for the biohacker HQ.
Kitchens can cause many issues if left unaddressed. Non stick cookware contains toxic chemicals like PFAS which have been shown to cause a myriad of issues in our body like reproductive and developmental toxicity.
Action Items:
For the best pots pants and much more use Our Place.
Ditch all plastic, and use Pyrex containers
Mason Jars as cool cups

7. Amplify Your Closet
Clothes can expose us to a ton of toxic chemicals if we're not careful.
Materials like acetate, nylon, polyester, and rayon are treated with chemicals like ethylene glycol and terephthalic acid, which have been linked to infertility, low testosterone, and chronic fatigue due to trapped heat and toxins.
I recommend going all natural with your clothing to avoid these issues.

8. Shield from EMFS
There is a reason that I unplug my WIFI router at night, have permanently turned off my microwave, never take a call to my ear (only speaker) and never put my phone in my pocket with airplane mode. I avoid EMF radiation and you should to.
This radiation can cause headaches, vision problems, anxiety, irritability, depression, nausea, fatigue, disturbed sleep, poor physical performance and oxidative stress.
To jumpstart your grasp of the seriousness of this issue, and to get the nitty-gritty details on protecting your home and body against the ravages of EMF, I recommend you read these books.
Here's a quick, practical guide to jump-start your EMF radiation protection.
-Unplug your wireless router or switch it off wireless mode when you're not using it.
-Use dirty electricity filters in main rooms of house. I personally use and recommend Greenwave filters.
-Use an airtube headset on phone and/or only use the speaker setting when talking on your phone.
-Keep your cell phone or laptop several inches away from your skin whenever possible, and put your cell phone on airplane mode if you need to put it in your pocket or near your head while sleeping or exercising.
-If you need to place an electronic device in your lap, use an EMF blocking pad such as a Bon Charge to block radiation
-Avoid using your cell phone when the signal is weak (this amplifies EMF) and use an anti-EMF case for your smartphone.
