Kool Five Friday: Welcome to the First Edition
Welcome to the First Edition of Kool Five Friday
Don't sweat the name; it's meant to catch your eye.
Think of this as a vlog on paper where I dive into biohacks, fitness, recipes, wellness tips, and pretty much everything in between.
It's all about sharing my life with you, trying things out, and then reporting back. Ready?
Let's get into this week's top five.
1. Experiment of the Week: Hot/Cold Contrast Therapy
This week, I've amped up my sauna and cold plunge routine to daily sessions, moving from my usual once or twice a week.
Despite being under the weather, this change has been a game-changer for me.
Previously juggling morning cold plunges and evening sauna sessions was a logistical nightmare, but thanks to Evolve Dallas's open-format facility, I've been able to seamlessly integrate both into my routine.
Here's the breakdown:
20-30 minutes in the sauna
3-5 minutes in 45°F cold plunge water
Repeat 2-3 times, followed by a stint in their massage chair.
2. Workout of the Week: Hex Bar Deadlifts
After a hiatus post-tennis career, I've reintroduced deadlifts into my routine, but with a twist: the hex bar.
It's been a revelation, eliminating the biomechanical risks associated with traditional deadlifts and activating more muscle groups effectively.
My routine this week:
185 lbs
2-3 sets, 4-5 reps each, with 8 seconds up and down.
3. Recipe: Lamb's Feet Bone Broth
Battling a cold, I've added lamb's feet to my bone broth for an extra collagen and glycosaminoglycan boost.
Surprisingly tasty, this broth has been both a culinary adventure and a wellness boon. Recipe link
4. Weekly Wisdom: Minimum Effective Dose
This week's mantra: Less is often more.
Whether it's tanning, muscle growth, or productivity, finding and sticking to the minimum effective dose can lead to better results and fewer injuries.
In a world that constantly pushes us toward 'more', it's crucial to remember the power of the minimum effective dose (MED).
The MED isn't about cutting corners; it's about efficiency and effectiveness.
Just 15 minutes under the sun can trigger Vitamin D synthesis without risking sunburn
Muscles can grow with just 80 seconds of tension
It's all about working smart, not hard, and prioritizing recovery.
5. Reflections: Overcoming Illness with Discovery
Being sick this week has been a trial, but it's also pushed me to explore new wellness strategies and refine how Kool Health can serve you better.
Remember, consistency, the minimum effective dose, and maybe a bit of lamb's feet, can go a long way.
Have a great weekend!
