Love the perspective, this approach really resonates with me. Personally, my fitness journey is in a detour now that I've had my first kid (although carrying him around must count for something!), but I just found out that he likes watching me do yoga while he's in tummy time. We can get in some exercise throughout the day together!

For staying active while working, I have to rep the movemate-- no affiliation, I just love it. Takes up less space than a treadmill, provides more natural and diverse joint movement, and is just plain fun! I find it a lot more sustainable than standing still while working (which I've read doesn't actually "fix" being sedentary anyway).

Totally agree. My apple watch tells it's time to stand up every hour, or encourages me to close a ring by taking a five minute brisk walk. While I was standing in line at the pharmacy yesterday I practised standing on one leg to activate all the muscles that hold my knee in place. I hoped no one noticed 🫢

Fantastic article! Really reminds me of the idea of regular “movement snacks” recently mentioned by The Bioneer on his channel. Our bodies adapt to our environments, and, as you say, compressed moments of pre-arranged athleticism in a week filled with being hunched over screens can only accomplish so much. Scheduled training is amazing, but adding in some random and varied movement across the day goes a long way towards becoming more energetic and injury-proof.

Keep the great articles coming!
