The Broke Biohacker’s Guide to Beating Illness in 24 Hours
How I avoided urgent care and antibiotics using dry fasting, methylene blue, lymphatic shaking and immune-boosting supplements that cost less than a doctor’s visit
Hey family,
Yesterday I was sick as a dog. Eyes so red and swollen I could barely see. Nose dripping like a faucet.
It started yesterday morning, and somehow I made it to work today.
Here’s my emergency immune system reboot protocol that got me back on my feet.
Day 1: Recognition & Strategic Fasting
7:00 AM - Yesterday during my writing session, I noticed my eyes were bloodshot red (typically a sign of inflammation and acute infection) The redness indicated my immune system was already mounting a response. I knew something was up….
11:00 AM - Worked until mid-morning, then headed to the music studio where congestion intensified. Too embarrassed to show my friend my eyes, so I wore blue light blockers (bonus: they reduced the pain from the swelling and light sensitivity that comes with inflammation).
3:00 PM - Left the studio and made a strategic decision: dry fasting for the rest of the day. No food, no water. This allows the body to shift all energy away from digestion and toward cellular repair and pathogen clearance.
(I’ve been fasting for almost a decade—please fast with precaution and consult a healthcare provider if new to this.)
The Science: When you fast, your body activates autophagy, a cellular “cleanup” process where damaged cells and pathogens are broken down and recycled.
Dry fasting specifically has been shown to concentrate immune factors in the blood and increase white blood cell efficiency. Your innate immune system becomes the priority, not digesting your lunch.
Rest of Day: Spent time cleaning my apartment, walked to the Apple Store for a charger, and made sure to move around with some lymphatic shaking.
Light movement aids lymphatic drainage—your body’s waste removal system that doesn’t have a pump like your cardiovascular system does. Shaking, walking, and gentle movement help clear metabolic waste and support immune cell circulation. Jump around for 5 minutes, or use a dry brush.
Night Protocol: Mitochondrial & Anti-Inflammatory Support
By nighttime: very congested, nose leaking non-stop, eyes super red. Assumed it was viral conjunctivitis (pink eye). So I decided to go with a high dose of melatonin and methylene blue because of the “co-infection/viral” nature of my symptoms.
Supplement Stack (Night):
10mg Methylene Blue - Potent antiviral and mitochondrial enhancer. MB donates electrons directly to the electron transport chain, giving your cells more ATP (energy) to fight the infection. It also has documented antiviral properties against RNA viruses.
100mg Melatonin - Not just for sleep. At high doses, melatonin acts as a powerful antioxidant and anti-inflammatory agent, scavenging free radicals produced during immune responses. It also supports mitochondrial function and has been studied for immune modulation during acute illness.
75mg CBN (Cannabinol) - Aids in sleep latency (how fast you fall asleep) and sleep quality (amount of deep + REM sleep). Deep sleep is when growth hormone peaks and tissue repair accelerates. Your immune system literally rebuilds itself while you sleep.
Boswellia (Phytochemical) - Anti-inflammatory herb that inhibits 5-LOX enzyme pathways, reducing inflammatory cytokines. Provides cellular protection and immune system support.
You can find the formula at mitozen.com
Here was my thought process:
Methylene Blue for antiviral effects + mitochondrial energy
Melatonin for antioxidant/anti-inflammatory power
CBN for deep restorative sleep
Boswellia for additional immune support. All working synergistically to give my body maximum resources to clear the infection overnight.
Day 2: Morning Biohacking Arsenal
Morning Status: Eyes still bloodshot, but body felt MUCH better. No more soreness or body aches. But I’m not missing my morning flow state for some random sickness.
Enough is enough. Time to biohack.
Morning Protocol (Step-by-Step):
1. Oral Microbiome Reset
Tongue scrape (removes bacterial biofilm) (Use Copper scraper, not plastic)
Oil pull (swish coconut oil for 10-15 min to pull toxins and bacteria)
Brush teeth with biohacked toothpaste (hydroxyapatite-based, no fluoride)
The Science: Your oral microbiome is your first line of immune defense. Removing bacterial load here reduces systemic inflammation and allows your immune system to focus on the actual infection, not managing oral pathogens. Favorite oil pull here.
2. Red Light Therapy + Lymphatic Drainage
10-15 minutes of red light (660nm + 850nm wavelengths) to enhance the Methylene Blue from the night before
Moisturized face and neck during session for extra lymphatic boost
The Science: Red and near-infrared light stimulate mitochondrial cytochrome c oxidase, the same enzyme Methylene Blue targets.
This creates a synergistic effect—more ATP production, better cellular energy, faster healing. The facial massage aids lymphatic drainage around the sinuses and eyes where inflammation was concentrated.
Favorite red-light panel here.
3. Enzyme + Probiotic Combo
3 capsules P3-OM from BiOptimizers - Proteolytic enzyme and probiotic designed to support digestive health and immune function
The Science: Proteolytic enzymes break down pathogenic proteins and reduce systemic inflammation. P3-OM specifically contains Lactobacillus plantarum, a strain shown to support gut barrier integrity and modulate immune responses. 70% of your immune system lives in your gut—supporting it during acute illness is critical.
4. Pineal Formula Eye Drops (Round 1)
Eyes were very red and I was concerned they had some bacterial/viral overload, so I used some bio-hacked eyedrops.
1 drop per eye containing:
1mg Methylene Blue (antiviral, anti-inflammatory)
Peppermint oil (cooling, antimicrobial)
Nano-particle silver (antimicrobial)
Biophotonic gold (cellular signaling)
Quinton sea water (minerals, electrolytes)
EDTA (chelator, biofilm disruptor)
The Science: Topical Methylene Blue directly targets the infection site (conjunctivitis). Nano-silver has broad-spectrum antimicrobial properties. EDTA disrupts bacterial biofilms, making pathogens more vulnerable to immune responses. Quinton sea water provides trace minerals that support cellular function.
5. Parasympathetic Breathwork
5-10 minutes of slow, diaphragmatic breathing (inhale 4 seconds, exhale 6-8 seconds)
The Science: Extended exhales activate the vagus nerve, shifting your nervous system from “fight-or-flight” (sympathetic) to “rest-and-digest” (parasympathetic).
When parasympathetic dominant, your body prioritizes repair, recovery, and immune function.
Chronic stress = suppressed immune system.
Breathwork = immediate nervous system regulation.
The videos I do every single day here :)
6. Second Round (30 Minutes Later)
Another set of eye drops (1 drop per eye)
3 more P3-OM probiotics
7. Hydration + Mineral Repletion
Hot water with Quinton sea minerals and Colima sea salt (sun-harvested)
The Science: Breaking the dry fast with mineral-rich water prevents rehydration shock and immediately restores electrolyte balance.
Quinton sea minerals contain the full spectrum of ocean minerals in bioavailable form. Electrolytes are cofactors for thousands of enzymatic reactions, including immune cell function. Get some here.
Results: Back to the Coffee Shop
And boom. It’s the day after, and I’m already back at the coffee shop writing this, feeling significantly better. Eyes way less swollen. Stomach doesn’t hurt. Congestion clearing.
It would’ve taken me days before, but now it was less than 24 hours. I am grateful for everything I have learned in this holistic/functional/biohacking health space and how to take care of my body in a proactive way.
It was unconventional and a little random, but based on what I know about how these nutrients work together synergistically, I was able to be my own doctor for the past 24 hours and avoid conventional medications.
Next Steps:
Eat in an hour or two (break the fast gently)
Take it easy for the rest of the day
Drink ginger tea (anti-inflammatory, digestive support)
Light walking to keep lymph moving
Continue eye drops and probiotics as needed
Key Takeaways: The Functional Medicine Approach
What made this protocol effective wasn’t any single intervention—it was the systems-level approach:
Fasting → Cellular autophagy + immune prioritization
Sleep optimization → Deep repair during peak immune activity
Mitochondrial support → More energy for immune cells to function
Nervous system regulation → Parasympathetic dominance = enhanced healing
Gut-immune axis → Probiotic support where 70% of immunity lives
Lymphatic movement → Waste removal and immune cell circulation
Topical antimicrobials → Direct pathogen targeting at infection site
This is functional medicine in action: address root causes, support body systems, work with your biology, not against it.
Any cool “biohacked” remedies you have when feeling under the weather? Drop them in the comments—I’m always learning new protocols! 💙
Disclaimer: I’m not a doctor, and this is not medical advice. This is my personal protocol based on years of self-experimentation and functional medicine principles. Always consult a healthcare provider, especially if symptoms worsen or persist.
